Africa Inland Missions - Jim & Beverly Streit
Jim and Beverly Streit both attended Moody Bible Institute where they met. Out of this experience they shared a desire to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ as missionaries. Having always had a strong desire to be a pilot, Jim had attended a church in his youth where a missionary pilot spoke about his ministry. He was impressed with the opportunity aviation could be as a tool in serving the Lord in overseas missions. After Moody, he studied for three more years in aviation training to become a pilot, while Beverly went on and attended West Suburban Hospital, School of Nursing.
"We prayed about the opportunity given to us to work with AIM AIR, the aviation support team of African Inland Mission. We came to serve in Nairobi, Kenya in 1986. In the past 18 years, I have enjoyed serving as a pilot, and aircraft mechanic. AIM-AIR has a fleet of 12 planes and 22 missionary families. They provide safe, reliable air transport to 60 different missions and church groups throughout 8 countries of east and central Africa. I likened our role to that of the servants found in Acts 6:1-7 who were appointed to wait on tables so that the apostles had more time to be effective."
Beverly has an outreach to the Kenyan English Settlers, a group of women who did not know Jesus, and now it has grown into a church of over 250 people. She is also active as a nurse at a medical clinic for AIDS children and their mothers.
We were introduced to Palm Desert Presbyterian Church through Dr. Mel and Sylvia Cheatham, on their first mission trip to Kenya with World Medical Missions, Samaritan's Purse. We are extremely grateful for our connection with this church and thank you for your support in our work. As Paul pointed out in his letter to the Corinthians, the Church that supports his work, will share in the rewards and fruits of his labor.

Amor Ministries(Mexico) - Jon Wilson
In 1998, after graduation from high school and seven trips to Tijuana as a short-term missionary, Jon tried a 3-month stint as an intern with Amor Ministries. Being with them ever since, Jon is presently a Mission Trip Coordinator for Amor in Mexico. He facilitates the needs of church groups while they are serving the poor in the surrounding areas just over the border. This ministry works with the pastors of the Mexico Ministry Planning Board in determining which areas to build homes for the needy.
In Mexico, Jon had his first real exposure to physical poverty, and it shook him. When he and others built a home for a family living in a shack, he underwent a change. He became angry with himself and those he knew for constantly complaining about what they lacked at home. He became angry with himself for not understanding the joy he saw on the faces of those supposedly less fortunate than himself. By the end of the trip his heart was broken and his life changed.
*PDCPC families have been going to Tijuana for several years and changing lives with Jon and Amor Ministries under the auspices of Chris Hushaw's "Vacation with a Purpose."

Christian Leadership Ministries - Scott & Jan Luley (a.k.a. Campus Crusade for Christ)
Our mission is to reach professors who change the world.
Scott is the Director of Christian Leadership Ministries at Princeton University and the eastern United States region. He and Jan both work full-time in this ministry as well as raising the entire salary, ministry budget, and benefits for all staff. It is a ministry of evangelism and discipleship to professors worldwide. "Professors change the way the world thinks and we influence the way professors think." The Luley's give leadership to CLM staff, 4800 Christian faculty, faculty affiliates, and their ministries on 15 of the most influential university campuses in the eastern United States.
Scott said, "I was so busy trying to 'look successful' that I didn't have time to ask why I wasn't satisfied until the second year of my Ph.D. program. I started to wonder just how much success it would take to really satisfy me and my answer was always 'just a little bit more.'
I had many misconceptions about Christians and Christianity. Then I read the Gospel of John and met Christians who shattered my stereotypes. I soon discovered that God created me for a meaningful life and I discovered Jesus Christ died to pay the penalty for my sins. For the first time in my life, I opened the 'door' of my heart and personally accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior, trusting Him to forgive my sins.
Did Jesus Christ change my life? Yes, He did! As I look back now, the contrast is clear. By receiving Christ, my relationship with God changed from a vague form of 'religiosity' to a very personal relationship. The most immediate result was that He became the source of my joy and satisfaction!"
We are committed to this first-class ministry which attracts leaders who can impact education worldwide in order to advance the cause of Christ.
Campus Crusade for Christ was founded by Christian Leadership Ministries in 1980, recognizing the incredible influence university professors have on students, other scholars and our entire culture.

EMAF
The vision of EMAF is to reach each of Brazil’s 2,000 coastal fishing villages along it 5,000 miles of coastline. Over the last 21 years, EMAF, with the help of many Brazilian churches has been able to reach 200 of these villages. Still, 400 remain completely unreached by the Gospel. EMAF has grown to 66 full time missionaries and an annual volunteer force of over 1,000 Brazilians who come to help in short term teams.
The ministry began in 1984 when Marcio and Damaris Garcia moved into a little boat, 22 feet long, living there for the next four years, spreading the gospel to 62 fishing villages. In 1986 they founded EMAF with the specific goal to reach these fishing villages. Since then its missionaries have been navigating the coastal waterways, evangelizing and planting churches in the isolated islands along the coastline.
New ministries have been added through the years as needs became apparent. Children Centers, Christian Schools, a Rehabilitation Center, Medical & Dental Care programs, to name a few.
Much has been accomplished! However, the most isolated area, by the mouth of the Amazon River is just now beginning to be reached. EMAF has established a base there and is ready to advance. Your prayers, financial support and volunteer services can make an eternal difference in the lives of people living in the remote islands and coastal regions of Brazil. |
Fellowship of Christian Athletes
The global mission of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is to present to coaches, athletes, and all they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, serving Him in their relationships and the fellowship of the Church.
Locally Erik Carlson and Sky Blake have a desire to see a strong FCA presence on every high school and college campus. Their goal is to put in place Christian Bible Studies that meet weekly with each sports team.
In 2002, Erik and Amy Carlson moved from Colorado to the desert after working with FCA for 6 years and bringing the program here. He is presently their Area Director bringing Sky and Heidi Blake into the fold after God's generous blessing of support through area churches, businesses and individuals.

Good News Jail & Prison Ministry (U.S.) - Dan & Shirley Matsche
Dan is the Regional Director for Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, an international ministry to the incarcerated. Dan has responsibility for Colorado, California, Washington and Hawaii. His principle duties are the planting and staffing of new prison ministries in these states and the management and oversight of their chaplains.
Dan also serves as a chaplain in a 700-man medium security prison in Colorado where he teaches the Word, and counsels inmates and prison personnel. The goal is to change men inside out to become a new creature in Christ.
*When he was a young, various men led Dan and his wife Shirley to his work for Jesus Christ. While they both were working as musicians in a road show, one of the members of the group was persistent in sharing the love of Christ and the truth of God's word. They eventually surrendered and accepted Christ as their personal Savior.
In a church in Orlando, Florida a member and volunteer at the county jail asked Dan to come and share his testimony with prisoners. As a result of the effect of his testimony on one of the inmates, Dan realized that this was where God intended him to labor. *

Good Shepherd's Fold Orphanage - Global Outreach (Uganda) Keith and Lisa Coggin
Keith and Lisa Coggins were voted in as Directors of Good Shepherd's Fold Orphanage in Uganda, by the Board of Global Outreach in August of 2003. They have about 150 children that they provide for - housing, education, medical care, nutrition, and most of all God's love. Coordinated with the Home are efforts to reach out into surrounding communities to share the gospel and disciple those they can reach. They are now in the process of expanding these outreach efforts to the war torn areas of Uganda.
In 2001, Wayne and Bonnie Sue Walker were staying with us while on furlough. Lisa and Bonnie Sue went to hear a pastor speak on Matthew 14. In the lesson they shared with me, the teacher pointed out that Peter was the only one that got out of the boat when Jesus said 'come'. Although he took his eyes off Jesus and sank into the water, he was out there with Jesus and was pulled back by his hand. The other's were still 'safe' in the boat. I realized that day that I was still in the boat. I wanted to go out where Jesus was. I heard His call and surrendered to the Mission field."

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Our Lord has given Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary a mission: to train men and women who have commitment, vision, and scholarly competence to reach the world for Jesus. Our vision is to provide an environment in which people who hear the call of God on their lives can prepare... where they can be challenged, discipled, loved, taught and mentored... where they can become great preachers and teachers, evangelists and missionaries, counselors and scholars, theologians and pastors.

Hands of Luke Ministry (Juarez,Mexico) - Dr. Marco and Carmen Samaniego
Marco Samaniego is both a pastor and a trained physician. He and his wife, Carmen, have two orphanages in downtown Juarez, Mexico where they care for up to 80 orphans. Hands of Luke provides them with shelter, clothes, warm meals, education and most importantly, the Word of God. The orphanages are bustling, merry places that also serve the homeless and transient people of Juarez who arrive searching for a warm meal.
At the same location they have a medical clinic with operating room capabilities (and an available surgical team), where underprivileged people can obtain treatment at no cost to them.
Marco and Carmen have built and now operate three separate nutritional centers in the poor colonias of Juarez. There they serve lunches to the children after school, provide medical care and worship services on Sunday. Two annual outreaches in these areas have provided Thanksgiving turkey dinners for 16,000 people. They are fed physically and spiritually with the gospel of Jesus Christ. At Christmas time 6,000 underprivileged children received wonderfully-filled gift bags.
Presently, they started a ministry to work with retired pastors who have nowhere to go. They are building duplexes for these pastors while they in turn minister to the people in the colonias.
PDCPC has been active with the Hands of Luke Ministries over the last several years. Many groups have visited, and our youth group and others have worked building the homes for the retired pastors as well as ministering to the children providing Vacation Bible Schools.
*The Samaniegos visit PDCPC often as they are from the Coachella Valley. Marco worked as a surgical nurse at Eisenhower Hospital before going back to medical school.

Horizon International - George and Joy Houssney
"The Lord found me in the slums of Tripoli, Lebanon as a street boy at the age of 11. Through the help of a Lebanese seminary student, I began to grasp God's great love through Jesus who died for me. I gave my life to the Lord at the age of twelve. My life was transformed and I left my life as a gang member. At the age of 14, I sensed God's leading into evangelism and ministry. Within a few years I had covered half of the country on foot preaching the gospel and witnessing to anyone I met. By the time I was in college in a different city, I had already planted five churches and turned them over to local leadership.
Upon college graduation God called me to translate the Bible into Arabic and other Middle Eastern languages. This was to be the most significant project of my life. Now 31 years later, I delight in the fact that the Bible is widely spread throughout the Arab world, Turkey, Iran and Kurdistan due its availability in those languages. The Arabic Bible alone has enjoyed a circulation of over 20 million copies. Upon completion of this project, I joined International Students Incorporated in Boulder, Colorado and 6 years later founded Horizons International"
Horizons International exists to bring the gospel to the nations. We have a two pronged strategy; to reach the nations that have come to us from all over the world, and to go to the nations globally. Our programs range from hospitality, to evangelism, discipleship, church planting, Bible distribution and training of missionaries to the Muslim world.
I can say that you reach the world from Palm Desert. Through your prayers and support, we and others are able to bring the gospel to the ends of the earth. Thank you for your faithfulness.

InterFace Ministries - Kay Eaves
John and Kay Eaves came to PDCPC for our first Missions Faire in February 02. John spoke to the congregation about his moving experience at Ground Zero with three of his pastor friends.
John and Kay felt that the Lord directed them into missions after attending the Urbana '76 missionary conference. In the summer of 1980 they were brought on staff with International Students, Inc. Their first assignment was to international students on the campuses of Harvard, MIT, BU and other universities in the Boston area where they served for 12 years. In 1990 they moved to Nashville, Tennessee to set up a church-based international student outreach. They joined InterFACE Ministries, a smaller mission organization with the goal of reaching all internationals who have come to the U.S.
In 2001, John was appointed Director of Hephzibah Ministries in New York City. He developed an outreach to international students in Manhattan which continues to this day. While John was in NYC (and since his untimely death) Kay has continued to run the international student ministry through InterFACE Ministries in Nashville.
Many of us were able to spend time with the Eaves in 2002 and then privileged to have walked with them through John's courageous battle with cancer in 2003. John didn't jump to the sidelines but began a ministry helping those who were dealing with their own terminal illnesses. John told us he would unplug his chemo machine and wheel it around the room witnessing to others about the love of Christ and His plan for salvation. We all miss John and know their ministry with international students will continue to grow and flourish through Kay.
John wrote emails that went around the world during his illness (about his ministry to others with terminal illness). If you would like to get a copy of those emails please log on to the internet under John Eaves Ministry or contact the Missions Committee for his booklet.

International Ministries Fellowship - Hal & Betsy Guffey
Our church has a very close affiliation with the Guffeys. They were active members of our church and Hal served as Chair of the Missions Committee. In 2002, they answered the call to start International Ministries Fellowship (IMF) which is an organization that encourages and aids ministries to internationals around the world. They have helped start new ministries in several countries by providing training for other missionary organizations (such as SIM in South Africa). They maintain a web site www.internationalchurch.net for the purpose of aiding English speaking congregations overseas in finding pastors and using them to help in the follow-up of converts.
Hal received Christ at age 9 and was active in an evangelical church in his youth. He rededicated his life to Christ when 19. He had a missionary vision and entered Vanderbilt University in Nashville thinking to use engineering to go behind closed doors as a (self-employed) missionary. However, upon coming to know internationals on campus and making contact with a newly created ministry called International Students, Inc. (ISI) he joined them. Betsy Ross was the secretary assistant to the founder and president making Hal and Betsy co-workers. They later married and soon started the 5th area ministry of ISI in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Hal is currently the Director of ISI in Washington D.C.
We have been away from Palm Desert Community Pres. Church for two and half years and yet our hearts have not left you.

Kairos Prison Ministry - Audrey and Harry Lehren
Harry and Audrey have been missionaries with Kairos Prison Ministries (KPM) since the early 90's. KPM, an international and interdenominational prison ministry, has been described by Chuck Colson as "the most effective program in prisons."
Kairos presents weekend retreat-type programs inside prisons worldwide and return monthly to follow up and encourage the men or women who have attended. The idea is to make disciples who will carry Jesus' message of love and salvation into their negative environment.
Harry and Audrey follow the "Kairos Outside" format working with anyone who has been impacted by the incarceration of a loved one. Each person is welcomed, Christian or not, and usually walk away from the weekend having accepted the love of Christ. They follow up by having "reunions" and then start neighborhood groups which become their connection to Jesus Christ, their community, support system, and their lifeline helping each other. In the desert there are six such groups.
At the Ironwood State Prison in Blythe, Kairos has been active since 1998, and since 2002 at the Calipatria State Prison. Harry and Audrey are hoping for Kairos to soon become active in two more prisons.
We see the Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church as the long arm of God reaching down to bless your generous outreaches. May God abundantly bless your church in all its endeavors.

Project Medsend
It is such a privilege to be among the many ministries that the Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church (PDCPC) supports. Our objectives are in concert with yours – serving our Lord and communicating the Good News of the Gospel. It is difficult to argue that one of the most effective methods for sharing the gospel is to follow Jesus’ model of healing first and then sharing the Gospel. The heart of missions relieves the suffering so that a person can hear the Good News.
Your support to MedSend is multiplied because we are assisting organizations like Mission to the World (MTW), Samaritan’s Purse, African Inland Mission, and Mercy Ships; organizations that look to Project MedSend to help them release their medical missionaries to the serve the lost.
Evidence the Lord is using MedSend to transform our world for Christ:
1. MedSend is one of the most strategic medical mission programs in the world; influencing over 75 evangelical ministries looking to MedSend for support in getting their health professionals to the field in a timely manner. Currently we have grant recipients in 86 countries in the world.
2. The Lord’s hand is clearly on this work; countless lives are being transformed for Christ, many are coming to know Jesus Christ in a personal way, and many people groups are hearing the gospel for the first time only because healthcare is opening formerly closed “political” doors.
3. We have a growing list of people hoping for help with their educational loans. The Lord continues to send hopeful young people our way and we are confident there are churches and people out there who can help. Our hope and prayer is that we do not have to delay an individual who is ready to go but encumbered by their loans.

Mercy Ship - Glenn & Carol Price
Glenn and Carol lived in the desert for some years while working with Youth With A Mission out of Idyllwild from 1992 to 1994. Their children went to Christian School of the Desert and they attended this church.
Glenn writes "I was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1959. My father was an undercover CIA agent. As a result I grew up all over the world - Laos, Germany, Philippines, Lebanon, Cyprus, etc. I graduated from Georgetown Prep in Washington, DC and went on to Furman University in Greenville, SC.
My motivation for entering the mission field was because I wanted to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, who came to seek and to save the lost. After I graduated from college, I entered the mission field and joined Youth With A Mission. I have served as a full-time missionary ever since all over the world."
Today, Glen is the Vice President of communications for Mercy Ships. Some of my responsibilities include overseeing the Mercy Minute (a daily radio program aired on nearly 800 radio stations), public relations, marketing and TV broadcasts. He has a global virtual team of communications workers on each of the ships in the fleet who report to him in the job of helping make Mercy Ships known to the public."
Mercy Ships is a growing fleet of hospital ships bringing world-class medical assistance to the developing nations. It is a global charity that brings hope and healing to the poor without regard for race, gender, or religion.

Micah Project (Central America) - Rebecca Haver
Raised and blessed by parents and grandparents (Chuck and Mary Haver) deeply committed to the Gospel of Christ, Rebecca was drawn to life as an overseas missionary. "I wanted to share with them the amazing news, that trusting in Jesus, can change their lives."
After receiving a M.A. in Intercultural Studies from Wheaton College, Rebecca served in Papua, New Guinea, Brazil, Mozambique, South Africa, Guatemala, Columbia and the Dominican Republic. "The road to where I am now was not always clear or necessarily easy, but now that I am here, I can see even better the many ways that God has been preparing me."
Currently she is serving in a ministry called the Micah Project, a family-styled program for ex-street boys. She is a teacher, group home parent, college advisor, outside ministry coordinator and administrator. (So many hats to wear when you go to overseas mission work.) The goal of Micah Project is to see the boys come to peace with their past, surrender the future to God so they can be an example of the redeeming love of Jesus in their community.

Presbyterian Council for Chaplains & Military Personnel
The Presbyterian Council for Chaplains and Military Personnel has been established to provide Presbyterian Ministry in the Chaplaincies of the Department of Defense of the United States. We Presbyterians have provided ministers for the chaplaincy for centuries. But never before has the challenge been greater, the human resources more limited, and the church more challenged to provide men and women for the chaplaincy, and support for the ministry of the organization which recruits, endorses, and provides pastoral care...the Presbyterian Council for Chaplains and Military Personnel.
There is no time zone where U. S. military personnel are not deployed and there is no time zone where our church through the Army, Navy, and Air Force chaplaincies are not present. And when many return wounded in body and spirit, chaplains in V.A. and military hospitals are there tending to their spirits.

Wycliffe Bible Translators - Nate and Dawn Kruger and others
Dawn grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and always dreamed of being a missionary. Nate grew up as a missionary kid in South Africa. They met at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois, where they were challenged to use their lives and talents to reach those who have the least chance to hear about Christ.
After studies in education and communication, they joined Wycliffe Bible Translators (WBT). The mission of Wycliffe is "to assist the church in making disciples of all nations through Bible translation." As support staff they have served in a variety of education and communication roles in the United States and in Papua, New Guinea.
In August 2005 they will be taking an assignment in Southeast Asia. The vision of WBT is "to see Bible translation in progress in every language that needs it by the year 2025." Current estimates are that 2,644 of the world's 6,913 languages still need God's word. More than half of those are in Asia. Nate's job will be to connect with leadership in youth, mission, seminary, and denominational ministries to share the vision of Bible translation in Southeast Asia. Dawn's job will be to write about what God is doing in these days to get His word to the ends of the earth.
Revelation 7:9 " After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language...."
